Cleaning Debris from Roof and Gutters
A lot of leaks in roofs are from debris build up in valleys and gutters and on the roof, which don’t allow the water to exit the roof the way it is supposed to. Debris build up can cause pooling, especially in valleys and gutters, causing water to pool and overflow into the roof. Houses with certain trees around their house (liquid amber, pine needle trees, banksia’s) need regular removal of debris, ensuring that the roof tiles are working the way they should be. We do this by blowing debris from the roof using petrol blowers, or in cases where debris is stubborn, we will remove it by hand.
General maintenance of roofs do vary, however the most common is to replace the valleys and re-bed and point the ridge hips and / or gable ends.
Re-Batten and Sark
This is needed when old sarking has delaminated and worn and is no longer servicing the
roof, but the tiles are still in good order.
How to:
- The tiles are removed and stacked neatley for re-laying.
- Old battens and sarking are removed and taken from site.
- New heavy duty sarking is installed.
- New battens are installed and existing tiles re-laid
Re-Bed and Point
This is needed when the old mortar is chipped and broken and no longer holding the ridge to
the roof.
How to:
- Ridge capping are removed and cleaned of all old bedding and pointing mortar.
- If the house has gables on them the old bedding and pointing is removed from these also.
- Ridge are bedded back to roof area using cement mortar mix.
- New gal and fibro weather strips are installed on the gable ends and they are also bedded with
the cement mortar mix.
- Ridge capping and gable ends are then pointed using flexible pointing in colour to closest
match tiles.
All rubble and debris are removed from site.
Overpoint
This is needed when the old bedding and pointing have slight cracks but are still holding the
ridge to the roof but may be allowing some water to enter the roof via these cracks.
How to:
- Simply apply a layer of flexible pointing over the existing bedding and pointing..
Replacement of Valley
This is needed when old valleys have corroded and may have holes and are no longer
servicing the roof.
How to:
- Remove tiles that have been cut to the valley and stack neatley for re-laying.
- Remove old valley and discard from site.
- Supply and installation of new colourbond valleys in colour to closest match tiles.
- Re-fit of existing valley tile cuts, supplying new cuts where necessary.
